It helps improve the roof’s energy efficiency — Roof coatings come in white or light colors that make the roof more reflective. This helps the heat absorbed through the roof, which would otherwise raise indoor cooling requirements and result in higher utility bills.

Critical Installation Errors

A roofer who applies roof coatings has to have the training to make sure the following critical installation errors are avoided:

Coating too thinly or too thickly — A roof coating needs to be at a certain thickness to achieve full efficacy. Evaporation must be taken into account, as the resulting roof coating is thinner when dry than it is when wet. There is also the other extreme, where roof coating is applied too thick, which can result in blisters, bubbles and wrinkles.

Applying before rain storms or during cold weather — Roof coatings need to cure in certain conditions such as temperature and humidity levels. Not meeting these conditions can result in less-than-optimal performance.
