K-Style Gutter Facts Every Homeowner Should Know

Gutters direct rainwater to the downspouts and away from your home. This function is crucial because it keeps your roof, siding, windows and foundation safe from water damage. K-style gutters are especially effective in doing this job, so they can help prolong the longevity of various home components.

In this post, WaynCo Roofing shares some facts every homeowner should know about K-style gutters.

Why Are They Called K-Style Gutters?

The profile of K-style gutters resembles the letter K, but this isn’t the reason behind their name. According to the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association (SMACNA), there are 12 common rectangular gutter designs, and K-style is the 11th of these. Hence, K-style gutters received the “K” designation, which is the 11th letter of the alphabet.

Why Are K-Style Gutters Popular?

About 80% of the homes in this country use K-style gutters because they have proven to be effective in handling water runoff. The K-style profile and seamless design can be custom-fabricated to suit any home and local weather conditions. Manufacturers can easily fit them with gutter covers to keep leaves, twigs and other debris out of your gutters.

How Many Sizes Are There?

K-style gutters are customizable, and they usually come in 5- to 8-inch sizes. Most homes opt for 5- or 6-inch gutters, while commercial buildings need larger gutters.

Why Is Aluminum the Most Popular K-Style Gutter Material?

Manufacturers use galvalume, copper or aluminum for K-style gutters. However, most manufacturers choose aluminum for its light weight, corrosion resistance and overall ease of installation.
